UFC 104 – Why Steve Mazzagatti needs to be fired, and the scoring method needs to be revamped.
Well, your humble Jizzla watched UFC 104 with some friends while drinking beer (Beck’s Dark for those who care), and enjoying bratwurst cooked in beer.
Highlights – A genuinely exciting main event, with some decent undercard action.
Lowlights – Steve Mazzagatti as a referee (STILL!), and the bullshit decision of the year.
For now, the Jizzla will concentrate on the main points.
I enjoyed the fights up to the main event, though part of that was the presence of strong brew. However, despite the likely event that Cain Velasquez would have beaten Ben Rothwell eventually, Steve Mazzagatti appeared to stop the bout prematurely, depriving Cain of a highlight reel knockout, and just pissing off the audience in attendance, both in person and via PPV. Please fire this jagoff Dana White, you’ve criticized him before, why in the hell are you keeping this tool around?
The main event was the best UFC headliner in a while, spoiled by blind judges who ignored the stellar performance by Mauricio “Shogun” Rua, and gave a battered Lyoto Machida a slim unanimous decision. While I fault the judges the most, I have to add in the boxing style point system still used to judge fights that are far removed from boxing. Until this gets resolved, I doubt this will stop and leave many a deserving fighter missing a win, in addition to pissing off many a viewer.

Its not danas choice which ref is still working
athletic commision

The UFC could easily put some pressure on the Athletic Commission to make changes. It won’t happen overnight, but with a big name like the UFC jumping on them, they would have more of a reason to change the system and perhaps do a referee review.

It’s been said repeatedly that Dana doesn’t pick the refs. You may think it’d be easy to put pressure on the commission, but what else would you call Dana’s long running, very public criticisms?
Dude sucks, but don’t bitch at Dana about it….. he’s done all he can to make Dana an outcast

I call Dana’s long running, very public criticisms akin to screaming at a wall. Though Dana doesn’t pick the refs, he, and his business partners, can use other means to influence the commission. Think of how most business gets done in government – Lobbyists. Though it may suck to have to stoop to the level of politicians, that might be the only way, and regardless, it will be worth it. Bad judging is one of the things holding MMA down in the states.

Seriously – you did NOT just suggest Dana fires his ass? What part of “he works for the AC” do you not understand?
Not to mention Keith Kizer has repeatedly stated he’s found no problems w/Mazz’s performance, and so doesn’t see the need to fire him.
Stop being a DW tool and go think for yourself for a change…and do your research first.

I did suggest that Dana fire him. This was before I realized he works for the AC. The Jizzla is not perfect.
However, if you read my other responses, you’ll see that I suggested another approach, which is to put pressure via political means – lobbyists. That is how business gets done unfortunately and, as MMA in general grows, it will become more important to have good referees.
Keith Kizer can be persuaded, everybody can be persuaded. If not, they can find themselves wondering about their long term job prospects if enough MMA orgs complain.
I DO think for myself, and have suggested an alternative that no one else has as far as I know, once I was aware that the refs don’t work for Dana White.
Have a Sizzlin’ Day!
